The other day I was talking to the budding aspirants reading for Company Secretaryship.  The topic was "Changing Environment and how it will Affect their professional practices".  Working for that when I started shaping up my thought process, I was myself surprised how fast the world around me has been changing.  One thing most affecting shaping our lives I could identify was "Technology".  Soon I was appreciating itsall-pervading penetration of technology.

Just a few Example.  How many technologies a simple housewife deals with? Just count. She operates mobile or telephone for sure, uses oven, gadgets like washing machine or grinding machine or mixer grinder are no foreign to her.  She at times drops her children to school and picks them back, operates TV or Radio, plays music or DVD, occasionally SMS's a friend or a relative or does the Internet surfing or sends a mail !  Oh! my God, there's an unending list!

As a Health Minister I have seen many cases of Angiography.  A doctor enters your body either through Fumora or Radial Artery.  There is a thin fibre optic wire that leads with a probe on a camera.  This is Material Science.  He enters your vein and navigates blood stream, it is Fluid Dynamics. Goes to a place where there is a block and opens the camera, it is Optics !! Inflates the balloon to open up bottleneck and for that he uses air pressure, it is Physics, the Stent is inserted, once again Material Science!!!The Stent is chemically coated to prevent blockage, it is Chemistry.  A patient is injected a dye for clear photograph of the veins and given lot of fluids at the end of procedure to urinate the dye, it is Physical Chemistry.  All through the doctor looks at the monitor and other gadgets, it is IT.  There is Anesthetist and Physician standing by the Intraventerist Cardiologist for assistance.  Total operation just lasting 20-25 minutes. How many technologies are used?  Would you call it a medical or a technological operation?  Every other case in medicine today either deals with Nano Technology or Multiplicity of technological operations like Biotechnology including the Pharmaceuticals and Drug delivery system.

These are just two examples from two diverse fields.  Analyze any field of activity around you today and in all probability the answer will be the same.  Technology has invaded every field of life.

Couldn’t help concluding that preaching of the greatest thinker of the current era,Alwyn Toffler is increasingly being proven right.

He predicted long back–

·         Every field will be invaded by Technology.

·         Those who adapt to it shall prosper; those who do not shall disappear like dinosaurs.

·         The pace at which technological changes taking place will be so great that if you sleep in the night and do not update in the morning, you will be outdated !!!

I am Confused, do I call the present generation and the generations next lucky to experience this pace of change hand the wonderful world of Technological Innovations or a curse they will be haunted by?
